To add a likeness to the figure, I had to slow down just a bit to consider the details. I rarely start with a preliminary sketch, or drawing. I feel this will inhibit the creative precess. I stayed true to that with this one. So, to ensure that I had room for the face, I started with the face first so that it wouldn’t get left out.
I feel this one turned out really well. I’m going to focus more in the next few days on the figurative works, and facial features. I can see where this adds another dimension to the painting, and enhances the abstract qualities as well.

Windows of the Soul Tour is now complete. – by Steven Kelso
April 27, 2009The Grand Finale – Thank You
On Thursday April 23, 2009 we brought to a close the most successful tour in our 15 years as a professional fine arts studio. The Athenaeum Theatre Gallery in downtown Indianapolis is the
“The Grand Finale” to the Windows of the Soul Tour. Who could have imagined all that would be accomplished when we sit down on October 26, 2006 and hashed out our plans for the
Windows of the Soul Tour.
The Windows of the Soul book was released on April 21, 2007 and our book release party started it all off at The Bean Cup Coffee House in Indianapolis, the first book signing that night would culminate in 9 more book signings around central Indiana over the next two years. Then we got the awesome news after our third book signing in June that the book had hit a nerve in the Indianapolis literary scene.
The Windows of the Soul book was inducted into the prestigious Nina Mason Pulliam Historical Special Collections Room at the Indianapolis Public Library in July 2007.
The next month brought three more book signings with a one day event at Kelso’s “Sistine Chapel,”
St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis which houses his most important work of art in Indiana, his crucifixion painting, “Crucifixion: Reality Monopoly,” and an interview with Indiana’s most influential spiritual leader, Dr. Kent Millard.
Then a book signing in Kelso’s hometown in Avon, Indiana at the Avon Town Hall. Followed by book signings at Chapel Rock and then the Athenaeum. Speaking of the Athenaeum this space was the perfect spot for the grand finale. Kelso displayed more than 50 paintings in this art space with some paintings measuring more than 12 feet in one direction. This without a doubt was Kelso’s most ambitious exhibition ever installed in Indiana. So, as you can imagine along with these 9 book signings and 7 solo art exhibits in the past 2 years it has been the busiest span of time in Kelso’s 15 year career as a professional artist and author.
With numerous newspaper, magazine, and TV interviews, plus the live appearances with religious and social leaders around central Indiana we give out a big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this
2 year plus tour such a wonderful experience. Then today the numbers just came in that tell us that this first quarter of 2009 has been the most successful one in Artistic Prophet Studios history. The list of names are just to long and with the fact that someone may be left out in identifying them through this list, that we just say, GOD BLESS AND THANK YOU. It has been a blast and an honor to reach the people with this incredible message of hope and grace.
Stay tuned in late 2009 for the finishing touches to the newest book, “The Grand Vision.”
Peace and Love

This painting was created from my recycling techniques. After painting several hours I was beginning to fatigue a bit. As I was contemplating a nap, I noticed this piece of unfinished art that was sticking out of the rejects box. If you are new to the blog, than that’s where I put the paintings that didn’t make the cut.
Often, these rejects start out as full sheets, 22" x 30", but are reduced to four 11" x 15" pieces if the painting doesn’t satisfy me.When I take a full sheet and tear it into quarters, there are often many opportunities for some unusual art. These random marks make for a great opportunity to create something very interesting.
This particular piece had the light yellow and greens that were left from the previous painting. I believe the first painting was a nude. I used a green and blue watercolor to add a few buildings, and windows. Once that was almost dry to the touch, I applied some black acrylic ink for the windows, and outlines.
I love it when these paintings turn out like this one. They are so loose and free. I wish I could make all of my art just like this one. Thanks for stopping by. Same time tomorrow…
Burro Serenade – by Cassandra Gordon-Harris
April 26, 2009
Here is the naked burro, primed and ready to be painted.

Will be off line for a bit as I devote time, energy and absolute creativity to producing a great BURRO! Paintings, drawings and stories will have to wait.
I have been chosen as one of 30 artists across the Southwest to create a burro for charity. As part of the third annual, "Burro Serenade" sponsored by Gallery 408 in Carrizozo, New Mexico. Each finished burro is auctioned to the highest bidder during a live auction in November with proceeds going to animal rescue shelters.
This year our governor Bill Richardson has taken a special interest in the event as he was unaware what southern New Mexico was doing! A little more publicity!
You can go to the gallery website at
www.gallery408.com and see past burros by clicking on "Burro Serenade". My burro will be a rescue burro carrying a tired lost child home. In order to accomplish this feat I will be casting a mold from a real child.
I will post photos when the work is finished…Ole!

Besides painting the precious face of this dog, my goal was to break away from the crayon today. No particular reason why, just felt like changing it up. Sometimes I feel like I’m too dependant upon my materials, so it’s nice to try something different just to let them know who’s in control here.
I painted from light to dark to slowly build up the layout. This ensures that the overall composition will fit properly on the paper with the right amount of negative space. Once I had it in place, I continued layering with watercolors and finished it off with some acrylic inks. I used the tip of the ink dropper to achieve the linear strokes. This was a great way to substitute the same effects I get with the crayons.
I’m keeping it short and sweet today. Thanks for stopping by, and if you would like a quote on a custom pet portrait, just send me an email and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
Have a great day……..
