Genesis – Birth of the Avatrs

4- A Plea to the Council
"Please, you must listen!" Spiegelin said as she stood in front of the council of nine.
"Princess Spiegelin, "Joden stated sternly. "You bore us with this constant pleading! Decisions have been made. You overstep your bounds by making demands upon this council."
"And would it harm you so much my dear Joden to listen to her once again?" Ming stood and faced the other council members. "Are there any among you who would deny my daughter her say?"
There was silence in response.
"Very well" Joden said with a flip of his wing, "speak your mind."
"My lords, and ladies" Spiegelin began, "I thank you for this consideration. The production of warrior birds is complete and Marca is overseeing their training as you requested….. However, I once again implore you to put aside your differences and look at what we are doing here. Going back in time, against everything we have spent centuries to overcome. To fight to the death is just inherently wrong. I implore you to listen to reason."
" Your repetitive protests tire us! Pray tell, my dear lady. "Tratis asked, "what would you suggest as a solution to our chasm in governing? Is your wisdom so much greater than ours?"
"Forgive me Lord, I have no solution for your disagreement, but I do have a suggestion for the battle. We cannot allow these sentient forms to do battle to the death; the gods would not be pleased with us using our powers to create a being and then destroy it to satisfy selfish ends.
"What would you suggest? Solve everything with your so-called magic?!" Monte asked

Musically Induced – by Jacquie Gouveia

I can’t stress enough how important music is to me as a visual artist. Sometimes I rely on it just for the constant flow of energy it provides. However, often times I use it to specifically inspire a piece I’m working on. I consciously listen to the music to hear the various layers that exist and how they relate to each other. In addition to the musicians voice, the beat, the guitar and the other instruments all create a separate layer. I strive to feel the layers individually and that is what I express and interpret on the canvas. The process becomes a deconstruction – reconstruction exercise.

It’s Tiny World – by Annette Labedzki

We have two Korean students staying in our home. They are the cutest tiniest little dolls!  I am 5’10”, my husband is 6’ and my son is 6’1” so from our point of view the Koreans are tiny. Yesterday one student asked me if their presence in our home would influence my art. I pondered for a moment and realized that they indeed have inspired me to start creating a series of tiny art. I made tiny one inch square paintings. I’ve made quite a few one inch envelopes from recycled paintings. Ideally I would like to create tiny collages, textile work, handmade books and tiny drawings. However I do dread the photography of all the tiny work and I’m not sure if I should shoot each item individually or create some sort of tiny installation. I would appreciate it immensely if you the reader could give me some suggestions on this matter.

Thank you so much!

From a caterpiller to a butterfly in just a few short lessons – by Madalyn Kennedy

Thanks to my friend Judy Wilder Dalton, I’m being "forced" to stay in the blogging and facebook world and to my surprise, it’s fun. However, all learning curves can be painful so please bear with me as I progress along this journey just like the little caterpiller.
I do know that all this has kept my art in the immediate forefront of my mind much more than it has been in the past year or so and that’s a blessing in itself since I love to paint. I’m also learning about licensing art and if you are interest, please follow my link and let Tara Reed introduce herself to you. I believe you will be as impressed with her as I was. Soon the butterfly will arrive and I can’t hardly wait.

Art Scam – by Ricardo Morin

January 23, 2009

I did not lose any money from the scam I am about to tell you, but I want to share the tell signs so that other fellow artists may avoid being victimized..

I was first contacted on Dec 27th by a Ms Frannie Brandsons (purportedly a resident of South Africa writing from Dallas, TX ) via e-mail (fbrandsons@hotmail.com). She had requested the purchase price for three of my artworks for the amount of $4,205.00-not including shipping. She was actually delegating the cost of pick up and delivery to a third party. On Dec 30th Ms. Brandsons agreed to my terms via e-mail though she later sent a check for almost twice the amount discussed ($8,000.00-dated Jan 20th and received on January 22nd, 2009.)

The payer’s check from a Chase branch (located at 602 N High Point Rd, Madison, WI 53717) was drawn on an account under the name of Otto Sales LLC (an used-car dealer with a website in Russian) located at 1210 E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI 53703.

Based on my research, I decided the check had to be bogus and that depositing it in my account would aggravate matters, that it was part of a scam already well documented on several artists’ blogs:

  • On Oct 30th, Carmen Hathaway @ http://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=34166
  • On Dec 11th, John Webb @ http://groups.google.com/group/pgns-members/browse_thread/thread/64ce29850d5d000c
  • On Dec 23rd, Julie Chapman @ http://julietchapman.com/blog/author/julietch/

On January 23rd, following the recommendation of the police department, I spoke to a NYC branch of the bank upon which the check had been drawn. At first, the bank manager acknowledged the account may have been bogus as it was inactive and there were no funds. A few minutes later, however, after speaking to the Fraud Department, the bank manager was given instructions not to disclose further information on the account other than its having insufficient funds. Upon the manager’s advice, I agreed to write “void” across the check and to hold all documentation for further investigation by the Internet Crime Complaint Center @ http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx.

If contacted by anyone related to the party who sent the check, I plan simply to mention that due to its lack of funds I had pass along the check and all the documentation to the appropriate authorities; that I should not be bothered any further.

Tarot Project Update – by Patricia Phare Camp

Master’s Tarot Project Update

We have an edition of Magicians

The Emperor Keyline is printed

The Priestess Keyline is printed on paper and on blocks

The Priestess color blocks have been laid out

The Empress keyline has been printed

Strength is in the progress of being designed. I plan to make the lion larger and have him and the lady bumping forheads with her back arm over the puma’s shoulder

So far I have these designs finished though lately I’m thinking about putting the silhouette of a helicopter passing in front of the Chariot’s moon. This will help segue into the Hermit as I am beginning to see him and it involves a flying machine.

I also want to add that this work has begun to have effect on my personality. I wont go into details; suffice it to say that lately I walk with one foot in the light and the other in shadow…I’m beginning to realize that despite it’s attitude my shadow is not so bad…in fact my shadow is a lot more fun than that do-gooder light half…
