Recently I received 2 emails, each slightly different, from paypal. They were warning me that someone has logged into my account, and that I must log in ( and fill in all of my personal information) within the next 72 hours or my account will be suspended. The threat made me nervous. The email is crawling with blue links to your account supposedly. DO NOT under any circumstances click on those links. These emails are called phishing emails. They want your personal information and then God only knows what they will do with it. When I received the first email I almost clicked on a link but became slightly suspicious because there were at least 4 obvious spelling mistakes. So I sent the first email to the guy who deals with our computers, crashes, viruses etc. He first warned me about "phishing emails". Today I received the threatening one, I immediately forwarded it to my computer tech. He again said it was the same. So the best thing to do if you receive an email like this is actually open a new window and log in to your paypal account. You can click on their security tips and they give you an email where you can forward your nasty "phishing email". Another tip: my husband recently had a legitimate transaction for around 1000.00 and guess what? Immediately a phone call came from pay pal checking to make sure that it was in fact a transaction made by my husband. My point is that we must keep in mind that there are administrators who are keeping an eye on things. So whatever you do "DON’T CLICK" on links and don’t fill any form with your personal information. If you have, contact paypal immediately.

Beware Of Email Scam- “Phishing Email” – by Annette Labedzki
September 4, 2008Enameling – by Irene Dorman
September 4, 2008This past month or so I’ve started learning vitreous enameling. I’ve always loved it and wondered how they DO that and it’s great to be able to at least see how some of the techniques are done. There’s so many different kinds of enamel too. Did you know that there are watercolor enamels (which you mix with water and paint onto the metal) and acrylic enamels, oil enamels, underglaze crayons (which you draw onto an enameled surface and then fire and then fire a transparent enamel over that), all kinds of little flower thingies that "bloom" when you fire them into these tiny flowers, it’s just too cool. I started out in beadweaving and I still love it, but then I migrated to jewelry and then to metalsmithing and now to glass. I guess I can’t stay still or something. Gotta keep learning (and making mistakes). I think this will be a life long thing, another one, since I keep finding things I love to do, the only thing I really disliked was a wax carving for jewelry casting class I took once, well, I took two of the classes and dropped out. It was really not what I wanted to do, I wanted to work directly with the metal. In my metalsmithing class there was a lady, Edna, who knew enameling and she did a demo one time and I got hooked from watching her, it’s taken me a few months to get the money free to start buying the actual enamel supplies, and it will have to be factored in to the budget, I’m afraid. Sigh. There are worse addictions.
Alberto Giacometti – by Alisa Javits
September 1, 2008This quotation is from Giacometti’s writings. This was a part of a performance in Kunsthaus Zürich, exhibition "Shifting Identies", 21.5.2008, at 18.00.
"Ma réalité
Ja fais certainement la peinture et de la sculpture et cela depuis toujours, depuis la première fois que j’ai dessiné ou peint, pour mordre la réalité, pour me défendre, pour mieux attaquer, pour accrocher, pour avancer le plus possible sur tous les plans, dans toutes les directions, pour me défendre contre la faim, contre le froid, contre la mort, pour être le plus libre possible;"
I like it… I guess you also feel so sometimes. Sometimes you think you are alone in your thoughts but then suddenly you realise that there are people who feel same, nice…
Pleasing Palette Knife Artwork – by Laura Barbosa
September 1, 2008I am very pleased to be working with the palette knife again after the last 2 years of primarily brush work. Using the palette knife is yet another style to explore and it has become a very exciting and educational learning experience for me. I just LOVE the idea of using a knife to blend colors and create depth in my artworks. What a great look and feel to new pieces!! Acrylics are my specialty and using heavy body paints has given me a new window into the world of art.
Here are some examples of my new pieces in my studio which are so new that I have not even uploaded them to my premium portfolio yet.
