Today is my youngest daughter’s 16th birthday. When I think about this it seems surreal that 16 years have zipped by… and what have I been doing that keeps me so unaware of the passage of time?  Guess I’m enjoying life and creating art and LIVING!  very Sweet indeed -) 1994 Vermont Jenna & Lena our Dalmatian Puppy - Debra Cortese image

Throwing Away My Embarrassing Experiments! – by Annette Labedzki

Over the years I’ve had plenty of “bad” art, experiments gone awry; however one step leads to another…

I’ve had bonfires in my back yard and my husband would sit there and watch my experiments go up in smoke! However so many times I’ve tried to throw away some of my less-than-perfect pieces and it just seems to be impossible. A bonfire seems to be the only solution however those bonfires are illegal in the city. The bonfire I did have was when we were living up north in a small town .Everybody had them because they owned farms etc..

It seems that art is like a living organism, you can’t just chuck it in the dumpster and hope that it dies. Many times I’ve thrown away hideous paintings, only to see someone digging in the dumpster and walking off with my embarrassing experiments!

A few years ago I sorted through all of my stored art and threw all of my miniature sculptures into green garbage bags. It was an artistic phase I went through which led to a dead end (maybe not, but it felt like it at the time).

One sculpture was a barbie doll size silver P.T. Cruiser (I drive the human size silver P.T. cruiser, which I love, by the way) filled with hand made dolls. The dolls were going to a birthday party!

I took all of the garbage bags, I had about a dozen and threw them in a construction dumpster a few blocks away; which you’re not allowed to do. I just didn’t know where to take my yucky stuff. Not to the local thrift store where it would continue to live. The next day as I drove by in my silver P.T. Cruiser to my shock and disbelief, a construction worker must have opened some of my discarded green bags and I saw my Barbie doll P.T. Cruiser sitting on the ledge of the dumpster along with a few more of my miniature sculptures. That night I slithered to the dumpster in my p.j’s. and wet hair, grabbed the P.T. Cruiser, stuffed it inside my jacket, pushed the other sculptures deep down into the dumpster and slithered back home.

Now as I am maturing as an artist (and as a human being) the quality of my “less-than-perfect” paintings, is good enough to keep the work. Perhaps not to show but at least I don’t have to worry about throwing pieces away.

Art…? My views… – by Jean Paul Leblanc

Art is in the eyes of the viewer.

If it is beautyful or means something to you, it is ART!

You don’t have to pretend you understand what Picasso or Pollack meant by this or that painting…It is their secret…

Who can read a mind?

About Digital Art…

Digital Art, in my views, is a simple evolution of the human love for beautyful things but also an expression of feelings and statements mixed with manual or intellectual progression.

Since rock on rock scratching in the caves, where humans, hiding from predators, described their predicaments to warn others, man has always looked for ways to express himself even before he could talk. From finger painting to brush painting was a long progress and from brush painting to creating with a camera or a mouse is only a natural application of new ressources and progressive science. In our quest for excellence, we will only copy or manipulate works of the Master, often called God…

What Is Art???? – by Peggy Garr

July 23, 2008

absolutearts.com Portfolio

There is no easy answer to this question – it’s like asking “what is life” or “what is thought” or “what is freedom.” Art means different things to different people.

Art is personal expression. Communication. A burst of creativity, or political commentary. Art can be an observation, a suggestion. It can raise questions, or even attempt to answer a few. Art can provoke thoughts and reactions and intense emotions. It can provide beauty and stimulate thought. Art can make people smile and laugh; it can puzzle them or make them wistful, or bring a sense of calm to a chaotic day.

Art can bring you to a dead standstill, with your mind racing or your heart pounding. Art can improve the objects all around us, from our cars and couches to medical equipment, or the computer you’re looking at, and the information to be found on it. It can help people lead more positive, productive lives.

Art can please us, disturb us, educate and shock us. Art challenges us. Art can reflect our reality, or hint at how things could be.
Art can shed light on the world, creating an original experience for each viewer.

Art appears in many guises, through drawing, sculpture, printmaking, video installation, lighting and camerawork on a movie set, textiles, photos, performance, a ceramic mug, words, jewellery, woodworking, animation, design.

Future civilizations will know us because of the imprint we leave behind. Art is a visual document of our planet, our people, and our ideas at this particular point in the evolution of humanity.

Art is an adventure

Ecological Painting to Help Raise Awareness – by Laura Barbosa

"Aquatic Invasion" was intended to raise awareness about the Issues of Invasive Species in our Waters.

Aquatic Invasion

This Work of Art includes such species as the Lionfish, Mitten Crab, Wolfish, Squirrel Fish, Asian Shore Crab, Red Japanese Alga, Moon Jellyfish, Nudibranches, Giant Squid, Snakeheads and Zebra Mussells. This is a Piece of Art that tells a story. Invasive species is a phrase with several definitions. The first definition expresses the phrase in terms of non-indigenous species (e.g. plants or animals) that adversely affect the habitats they invade economically, environmentally or ecologically. It has been used in this sense by government organizations as well as conservation groups such as the IUCN. The second definition broadens the boundaries to include both native and non-native species that heavily colonize a particular habitat. The third definition is an expansion of the first and defines an invasive species as a widespread non-indigenous species. This last definition is arguably too broad as not all non-indigenous species necessarily have an adverse effect on their adopted environment. An example of this broader use would include the claim that the common goldfish (Carassius auratus) is invasive. Although it is common outside its range globally, it almost never appears in harmful densities. Due to the ambiguity of its definition, the phrase invasive species is often criticized as an imprecise term within the field of ecology.
