An answer to an email with no return address. – by Chrisann Mcbride

I happen to do alot of pencil drawings and I have done the same
draawing you have there. Is that your own original drawing
because it can’t be. I saw that drawing in a book and I also
drew it. How much did you sell the drawing for?

Hello to whom wrote this email,
You are absolutely right…I have a pencil set with this book that has this picture.  This is my second drawing ever.  It is the drawing that I did for homework while taking an art class from a gallery…years ago.  It means alot to me…It was accidentally seen by the university art director…therefore I followed his advice of taking college art classes.  It was purchased by my deceased mom.  She wanted to be the first to purchase my work.  I inhereited it back.  It was sold to my mom and now its not for sale.
Sometimes we jump to conclusions without really knowing the full story.  Thats unfortunate…but we are all guilty of this behavior one time or another.
I wanted to share with everyone a piece of me…
I’m sharing this email and email response hoping that the person who wrote it would see my reply…As there was no email address to send it to.
Please let’s be reminded that we sometimes need to inquire of ones work with the knowledge that we didn’t walk in there shoes.  I realize there are alot of crooks out there and we have to be accountable…but there are alot of good people that just want to create for the world to see.

Passion and Art – by Annette Labedzki

Passion and Art

by Louise Osborn

Passion is love with energy, with action, practical love, active love, love that changes the world. Passion is mobile, motivated, not just focussed or possessed, but fully participatory with the object of that passion. Annette’s work is nothing if not vibrant, engaged, a true expression of her energies.

The studio is a sublime space as a result of passion. The merest line, painted or drawn here, is effected by a pressure, an angle and a pace informed by an active love of the process. We know, if we are not  strangers to the language of visual marks (or spiritually blinded), what we are looking at. We read in the line the condition of the artist at the time of its creation. It can’t be faked, unless the viewer cannot read the art.

Where does this passion come from? Who knows? From talent? Aptitude? Or just from being alive, from having lies cleared from the eyes?

Her special gift, who she is, what her place in society, or rather culture is, where she fits, who she is born to be, these are truths not to be denied on pain of darkness, the darkening of her light and her life. Where success is present in painting (and color is light) it must indicate that the painter succeeded in staying in the light of herself, of living fully. This is what we admire, as we may do so ourselves in our own ways, or deny for fear of influence or comparison.

The Smoking Underground – Money, Magic, and The Assemblage Arts – by Richard Thomson

Money, Magic and the Assemblage Arts

Throughout my life I have been fascinated by and seeking true magic and the freedom that it implies. Art was, in my mind, the gateway to both.  During my past journey though painting and sculpting, I could sense the magic but not quite touch it.  Then one day, the magic reached out to me and that day, I went out into the world and sought those things that had power but lost their original propose. I went into the studio and found my own paintings that I felt had no soul, and together we found my voice. The stories are about abandonment, rejection, fear, love, and, of course, Magic. While still bound to the everyday grind – in my studio with my things –  I feel a sense of freedom and excitement for the magic that seems to materialize from the air.

While seeking new content and confirming that my current information sources were consistent with my direction, I am amazed and sometimes amused at the paths taken to tap into the magical collective.  Colors, numbers, candles, gods, saints, herbs, beads, symbols, amulets, and relics all have meaning and purpose in ritual magic.  I have always thought my job as an artist was to give visual expression of my world and a window to its possibilities.  I never claimed to be more or less than a simple artist and craftsman seeking my own voice, but as I assembled my materials, some interesting events took place.  I feel I should share this tale.

Earlier this spring, I came out of my studio only to have my wife tell me the world had gone to hell, and a lot of people, including us, were in trouble.  Mortgage rates, war, unemployment, stock market, home builders, and gas prices were all out of control or in the crapper.  So I did what any good artist would do…. Went back to my studio.

I really tried to ignore all that unpleasantness but once again the magic reached out to me.   I thought all people need is a little hope, a symbol or maybe a LUCKY SHRINE. Through my books and across the internet, I assembled all things LUCKY and started building those shrines. Whether you view the following as magic or just a random occurrence is up to you.

While putting the final touches on my first LUCKY SHRINE I was approached by a local out-of-work builder and told that I had hail damage.  If I let him bid the job to my insurance company, he would cover the deductible – $20,000 for new siding, roof, gutters and trim painted, all approved and paid for.  Not one cent out of pocket. I gave that shrine to my nephew and his wife, who are expecting a baby, as a shower gift.  As I was finishing up my second LUCKY SHRINE, as the paint was drying, I ran out for pop and snacks.  I was compelled to do something I would never do; I bought a $10 scratch off ticket.  I still have no idea why.  I won $2,000. Tomorrow, I give this second shrine to my father-in-law to help him with his challenges.

Well, I’ve seen heaven and been through hell.  Only time will tell which way this story is going to go.

Just a few Photos from Florence – by Glenda Santiago

As I am editing and cataloging photos, I came across these from Florence that I wanted to share. "La Pieta", a copy in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santo_Spirito_di_Firenze">Santo Spirito</a> church in Florence was sculpted by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanni_di_Baccio_Bigio">Giovanni Lippi</a>. The church is located across the Ponte Vecchio bridge and off a small street past the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palazzo_Pitti">Pitti Palace.</a> Also we went to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_di_Santa_Croce_di_Firenze">San Croce church</a>, where a monument is dedicated to Michealangelo designed by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giorgio_Vasari">Giorgio Vasari.</a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_AT6HrodNx08/SGUCgjdyuVI/AAAAAAAAAPg/T-lXeJ_P3_U/s1600-h/Monument+to+Michelangelo.jpg"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_AT6HrodNx08/SGUCgjdyuVI/AAAAAAAAAPg/T-lXeJ_P3_U/s320/Monument+to+Michelangelo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216578501677857106" /></a>Many other monuments were there also that were dedicated to the likes of Galileo, Donnatello, Dante and Giotto. More photos to come later of those monuments.
As we were walking through the streets of Florence, we cam across this young artist who was drawing old master copies with pastels. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_AT6HrodNx08/SGUDM4lsBYI/AAAAAAAAAPo/qxZJBQ8xJJM/s1600-h/Street+painter.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_AT6HrodNx08/SGUDM4lsBYI/AAAAAAAAAPo/qxZJBQ8xJJM/s320/Street+painter.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216579263262360962" /></a> There were street artists everywhere and it was exciting to watch as they painted and drew. There were masses of them in from of the entrance to the Uffizi also.
Legend has it that back in the Renaissance times, farmers would come to the market and find a fountain of the wild boar. The custom was that if they threw money into the fountain and it went down the drain, they would have a prosperous crop. So my husband threw a coin and if legend is true, we will not be having any prosperous crops.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_AT6HrodNx08/SGUDW7CrAjI/AAAAAAAAAPw/VxTm28OragA/s1600-h/Wild+Boar.jpg"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_AT6HrodNx08/SGUDW7CrAjI/AAAAAAAAAPw/VxTm28OragA/s320/Wild+Boar.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216579435719492146" /></a>
More images to come randomly, now I am getting ready to paint.

My Biography – by Annette Labedzki

BIOGRAPHY

I was born in St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. A few years later we moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where I spent my childhood and early adulthood. However, I was always extremely homesick and finally in 1982 I moved back to Vancouver, B.C. I love living near the ocean. It gives me a great feeling of freedom, which influences my painting immensely.

I remember the first award I received was in Art class in grade 10. The superintendent of the Winnipeg School Board bought one of my paintings! I was so excited!

Nine months after moving to Vancouver, I met my future husband. He was a Polish Navy Officer, named Andrew, who had jumped ship in 1982. We are married and have been together for twenty-five years. We have one son, Johnny, and three crazy cats! The stability of my marriage has given me the emotional support and courage to pursue my art career on a full time basis.

Before attending The Emily Carr College of Art and Design, I spent a whole intense year drawing from nature and studying human anatomy; figurative drawing and painting.

I especially loved drawing portraits. I enjoyed going beyond the face and capturing the person’s soul.

I received my BFA at Emily Carr College of Art and Design and spent another year studying philosophy at The University of British Columbia. During this time my husband learned English, drove a taxi, received his BMLS degree (Bachelor of Medical Lab. Sciences) and received his DMD degree (dentist).

After graduating from University we bought a dental practice in northern B.C. Again, I felt terribly homesick for Vancouver. I wanted to turn back before our UHaul was even unloaded. We felt isolated and two years later we were back in Vancouver. The valuable lesson I learned from this experience was that I must live near the ocean. It is vitally important for me as an artist. The ocean gives me great inspiration, peace and a wonderful sense of freedom.

Another award I received was First Prize at the Pacific Northwest Annual Show at the University of Oregon, U.S.A. The University bought my painting and it is now in their permanent collection.

I spend my days drawing, painting, creating collages and I hope to do so for many years to come.

I found a great web designer ! – by Annette Labedzki

June 25, 2008

absolutearts.com Portfolio

Has anyone out there been frustrated with either, finding a website designer or finding one who overcharges or is really slow? I’m disappointed when I find someone who says they’ll do the job but then I wait and wait and wait, I make a phone call and then wait some more. It’s frustrating when the next step in your career depends on a web designer who isn’t performing and you can’t do it yourself so you feel stuck. I finally found a great company  : www.starcomsystems.net . I posted my job on www.elance.com , this is a great website, your money is safe and goes into esgrow first before you pay the designer. Their address at Elance is :http://starcomsystems.elance.com. Starcom Systems was very professional, very helpful, and very speedy. In one week they’ve created a new site for me. It is a user friendly site, which I had asked for. I can load my own images and text. My new site is: www.Labedzki-Art.com. I’m still in the beginning stages of creating new pages and loading images.

I wanted to share this information with other people, in case you’re “waiting” for someone, who isn’t getting the job done.
